The President of the Republic, accompanied by First Lady Absa Faye and a high-level delegation, traveled to Touba this Saturday, following the passing of Serigne Cheikh Saliou Mbacké, eldest son and Khalife of the late Serigne Saliou Mbacké, who returned to his Lord on May 29, 2026, in Khelcom. This solemn visit was marked by reflection and prayer, as the Head of State conveyed the condolences of the Nation to the family of Cheikhoul Khadim.
The President first met with the General Khalife of the Mouride Brotherhood, Serigne Mountakha Bassirou Mbacké. In the presence of the spiritual leader, he paid tribute to the memory of a worthy spiritual heir whose life was entirely devoted to Quranic education, the guidance of disciples, and social service. The passing of this prominent figure represents a great loss for the Mouride community and, beyond that, for the entire Muslim Ummah. On behalf of the Khalife, Serigne Bassirou Abdou Khadre expressed appreciation for the President’s visit and offered prayers for the eternal rest of the deceased, as well as for lasting peace, stronger social cohesion, and shared prosperity.
The President then proceeded to Keur Serigne Saliou Mbacké, where he met Serigne Bassirou Mbacké, the new Khalife of the family of the late Serigne Saliou. He conveyed once again his heartfelt condolences, as well as those of the Senegalese people, in memory of a man deeply committed to the religious and educational values of the brotherhood, whose dedication to agricultural development will remain an enduring example.
Finally, at the residence of the deceased, the Head of State personally shared in the family's grief. Through this gesture, the President of the Republic reaffirmed the respect and consideration that the State extends to all religious families of the country, in keeping with the principles of fairness and mutual respect that underpin national harmony and Senegal’s stability.
