The President of the Republic paid a visit to Military Zone No. 5, marking the second stage of his day’s engagements.
Under the command of Colonel Cheikh Gueye, Military Zone No. 5 has undergone significant renovation works. The refurbished facilities have been in use since 1 December 2025 and were officially inaugurated on 19 June 2025 by the current Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces.

This visit provided an opportunity to commend the sustained efforts of the Defence and Security Forces in the pacification of Casamance, notably through demining operations, border security, the protection of civilian populations, and support for the gradual return of displaced persons, in close coordination with sustained civil-military actions. The Head of State encouraged the continuation of peace-building efforts, dialogue, and cooperation with the armed forces of neighbouring countries, which are essential to the consolidation of lasting stability.
Wishing to personally mark the festive season, the President of the Republic then travelled to the south of Nyassia to share a moment of exceptional communion with the troops deployed on the ground. He had lunch with them and raised a toast in their honour, in an atmosphere marked by fraternity, respect, and solidarity.
On this occasion, the Head of State reiterated his unwavering support for the Armed Forces, as well as the gratitude of the entire Nation for their professionalism, sense of duty, and daily commitment to peace, security, and national unity.
This strong gesture illustrates the President of the Republic’s deep attachment to the women and men in uniform, who stand as guarantors of the security of the population and the stability of the country.
