On the third day of his visit to Japan, the President of the Republic granted an audience to Mr. Takeharu Yamanaka, Mayor of the City of Yokohama.
This meeting took place within the framework of TICAD, which Yokohama is hosting for the fourth time, thereby confirming its role as a privileged platform for dialogue between Japan and Africa. With its four million inhabitants, the metropolis embodies a dynamic of openness and international cooperation.
On this occasion, Mayor Yamanaka expressed his delight in welcoming the Head of State and his delegation, emphasizing the importance of this visit for strengthening ties between his city and the African continent.
President Bassirou Diomaye Faye, for his part, commended the warm welcome extended to him, while highlighting Yokohama’s exemplary model in several strategic areas, including water management, waste treatment, urban planning, and port operations. He further invited the Mayor to consider enhanced cooperation with Senegalese local authorities, in a spirit of sharing expertise and best practices.
In this regard, both parties agreed to deepen their collaboration, particularly in the areas of technical cooperation and human resource training. These partnership priorities aim to support local communities and promote sustainable urban development based on innovation and solidarity.
