The Head of State Concludes His Official Visit to Germany with a Meeting with President Steinmeier.

International - 2026 June 23

The President of the Republic concluded his official visit to Germany with a meeting with the Federal President, His Excellency Mr. Frank-Walter Steinmeier.

The two Heads of State praised the depth of a relationship whose roots go back to the very beginning of Senegal’s independence. As early as 1962, a German President paid an official visit to Dakar, and the regional hospital of Diourbel still bears his name today. Since then, high-level visits have taken place regularly in both directions, weaving a longstanding, solid, and trusting friendship. The President of the Republic placed his visit within this historical continuity, with the ambition of strengthening this legacy while opening new avenues for cooperation.

The meeting provided an opportunity to review the breadth of cooperation between the two countries, spanning energy, healthcare, education, and vocational training, notably within the framework of the Compact with Africa initiative. The President of the Republic expressed his appreciation for Germany’s unwavering support for Senegal’s development and highlighted its role as Senegal’s leading bilateral partner during the pandemic, alongside the Institut Pasteur de Dakar.

The Head of State also noted the growing interest of German companies in Senegal, where they are already active in sectors such as hospitality, cold-chain logistics, packaging in Diamniadio, and the cotton-textile industry. He expressed his wish for a strengthened and diversified partnership, driven by ongoing reforms and improved access to financing, convinced that this is what makes the difference in trade and investment relations with Africa.

On international issues, the two leaders observed a strong convergence of views. The President of the Republic called for greater German engagement in Africa’s security efforts, particularly in addressing terrorism in the Sahel, and reaffirmed Senegal’s steadfast commitment to the peaceful resolution of disputes through dialogue.
At the conclusion of the meeting, the Head of State invited the Federal President to pay an official visit to Senegal, as a testament to the friendship that both nations are committed to continuing to build together.
