Press releases - 2026 February 05

On the evening of Thursday, February 5, 2026, and late into the night, the President of the Republic, Bassirou Diomaye Faye, successively received several local elected officials and economic stakeholders from the Tambacounda region, in a spirit of attentive listening and in-depth dialogue with the driving forces of the territory.

The participants voiced their concerns on key issues directly affecting the daily lives of the population, notably health, connectivity, employment, and regional isolation.

In response, the Head of State reviewed several ongoing government programs and initiatives aimed at delivering concrete and sustainable solutions.
In the area of health, he referred to the upgrading of the Bakel health center, as well as the launch, before the end of the year, of a national program providing 112 ambulances to strengthen medical evacuation capacities across the country.
With regard to connectivity, the President of the Republic recalled that the difficulties raised will be gradually addressed through the deployment of satellite internet, in order to ensure equitable access to digital services, including in the most remote areas.
Concerning regional connectivity and accessibility, he indicated that an allocation of 24 billion CFA francs, retained as part of the renegotiation of the Special Program for Opening Up Enclaved Areas, is dedicated to the construction of road networks in the region. He also mentioned the rehabilitation of the Tambacounda railway station, a strategic infrastructure for mobility and territorial integration.
During the discussions, women spoke extensively about the Tambacounda Women’s Center, which brings together 50 Economic Interest Groups (EIGs) and has benefited from funding amounting to 40 million CFA francs from FONGIP. They expressed their gratitude to the Head of State for this support, emphasizing its tangible impact on women’s economic empowerment and the strengthening of the social and solidarity economy.
Through these extended exchanges, the President of the Republic reaffirmed his determination to respond with method, fairness, and consistency to the concerns of the territories, in line with the commitment to make 2026 the Year of Employment and the Social and Solidarity Economy, and with the Senegal 2050 Vision.
