The Authority of Heads of State and Government has entrusted Senegal with the Presidency of the ECOWAS Commission for the 2026–2030 term, reflecting the confidence placed in our country's longstanding commitment to regional integration.
To assume this responsibility, the President of the Republic, His Excellency Bassirou Diomaye Faye, presented to his fellow Heads of State the candidacy of General Birame DIOP.
A man of integrity and consensus, widely recognized for his leadership, professionalism, and expertise in peace, security, governance, and regional integration, General DIOP has served in the highest positions at both the national and international levels, notably as Minister of the Armed Forces of Senegal and as Military Adviser to the Secretary-General of the United Nations.
He will bring this wealth of experience to the service of ECOWAS, building on Senegal's longstanding commitment to regional integration, with a clear objective: to contribute, with dedication, professionalism, and a strong sense of duty, to strengthening the Community and enhancing its effective functioning.
