Return of French military sites: the President of the Republic visits the Ouakam, Bel Air, and Navy sites

Press releases - 2025 July 19

The Head of State conducted a reconnaissance visit this morning to the sites returned by France, marking a major step in the reconfiguration of military cooperation between the two countries.

Accompanied by ministers and the Military High Command, President Bassirou Diomaye Faye visited the Ouakam, Bel Air, and Navy sites, now fully under Senegalese sovereignty. The visit allowed for an assessment of the infrastructure (housing, logistics, operations) and an evaluation of their potential for future assignments.

The return of these sites, resulting from bilateral dialogue based on mutual respect, opens a new era of strategic cooperation focused on training, interoperability, and strengthening national capabilities.

Senegal thus asserts, with calm and resolve, its full and complete sovereignty over these strategic military installations.
