Today, the President of the Republic, His Excellency Mr. Bassirou Diomaye Faye, accompanied by his brother, His Excellency Mr. Mohamed Ould Cheikh El Ghazouani, President of the Islamic Republic of Mauritania, conducted a historic visit to the Grand Tortue Ahmeyim (GTA) gas platform.
They were welcomed on-site by the project partners: British Petroleum (BP), Kosmos Energy, the Société des Pétroles du Sénégal (PETROSEN), and the Société Mauritanienne des Hydrocarbures (SMH).
This strategic visit officially marks the entry of Senegal and Mauritania into the exclusive circle of liquefied natural gas (LNG) exporting countries. The GTA project symbolizes exemplary cooperation between our two nations, built on transparency, equity, and a shared ambition to collectively shape our energy future.
This major milestone ushers in a new era of shared prosperity, strengthened energy sovereignty, and sustainable economic transformation for the benefit of the Senegalese and Mauritanian peoples.
