Press releases - 2026 April 23

On the sidelines of his economic tour, the President of the Republic held an audience with elected officials from the Kolda region. This exchange extends a method he is now establishing during each of his regional tours: taking time to listen, engage directly with territorial representatives, and better understand, through them, the concrete concerns of local populations.

During the meeting, the elected officials notably raised issues related to opening up isolated areas, rural electrification, and the paving of roads. The Head of State acknowledged candidly that the budgetary context remains challenging, but stressed that the most urgent programs are currently being identified in order to implement priority works. He also indicated that an additional 50 million CFA francs had been allocated to support projects under the South Agropole initiative, emphasizing that Kolda holds a central place in this program, with four factories planned and financing already available.
The President of the Republic also referred to progress being made on several structuring projects, including discussions regarding the launch of 35 health centers, the project concerning temporary shelters, as well as planned boreholes to address water supply needs. On this occasion, he assured the elected officials that he had clearly received their message.
Through this audience, the Head of State reaffirmed a strong conviction: the country’s transformation will be all the more sustainable if it is driven from the territories, as close as possible to production zones, real needs, and the concrete expectations of the population. Praising the republican spirit of the discussions, he expressed his wish to institutionalize these meetings with elected officials and, ultimately, to receive all elected representatives of Senegal within the framework of a regular territorial dialogue, grounded in listening, trust, and shared responsibility.
