The President of the Republic, Bassirou Diomaye Faye, Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces, presided this morning at the Dial Diop barracks in Dakar over the Armed Forces Day.
Placed under the theme “The Armed Forces, Partners of the Dakar 2026 Youth Olympic Games,” this 2025 edition highlighted the active participation of the Army in the preparation and security of this major global sporting event.
The ceremony was marked by the presentation of arms, the awarding of decorations and the naming of promotions from the EMS and ENOA, as well as the presentation of the Special Prize of the President of the Republic rewarding technological innovation for military and paramilitary purposes.
In his address, the Head of State praised the professionalism and sense of sacrifice of the Armed Forces, paying tribute to the soldiers who fell for the Nation. He also congratulated the launch of the “Waajal Xale yi” program, aimed at strengthening the spirit of citizenship among young people, in partnership with the Ministry of National Education.
Addressing national sovereignty, President Faye recalled the renegotiation of Senegal’s defense agreements and announced a new doctrine of international cooperation based on the country’s interests and values.
This day of tribute consecrates the Army as a republican, professional institution close to the people, faithful to its motto: “They may kill us, but they will not dishonor us.”
