Press releases - 2026 February 05

The President of the Republic, Bassirou Diomaye Faye, chose to begin his economic tour of eastern Senegal with a visit to the site of the University of Eastern Senegal, thereby underscoring the central role of education, human capital, and innovation in the country’s structural transformation.

Fully aligned with the Senegal 2050 vision, the University of Eastern Senegal is conceived as far more than an academic institution. It stands as a strategic lever for scientific sovereignty, applied research, and employability, in support of balanced and inclusive territorial development. Its establishment in a border area of major strategic importance reflects an approach grounded in stability through development, economic opportunity, and the local anchoring of skills.

Through its hubs dedicated to mining and geology, advanced technologies, agro-industry, and the valorization of endogenous resources, the University of Eastern Senegal aims to train skills aligned with national priorities, foster the emergence of local entrepreneurs and startups, and make a lasting contribution to the creation of quality jobs.

By opening this tour with a visit to the University of Eastern Senegal, the Head of State clearly reaffirms his commitment to making 2026 the Year of Employment and the Social and Solidarity Economy, placing education, innovation, and territorial anchoring at the heart of the national project.
