Official Launch of the Reforestation Caravan: President Faye Calls for Citizen Mobilization to Protect Natural Heritage.

Press releases - 2025 August 02

His Excellency Mr. Bassirou Diomaye Faye presided today, in the classified forest of Mbao, over the National Human Investment Day, coinciding with the official launch of the reforestation caravan.

On site, the Head of State participated in cleanup operations before engaging with members of the oversight committee for this valuable ecological heritage of the capital. On this occasion, local stakeholders presented the President with agricultural initiatives developed within the forest, showcasing finished products derived from these activities.

Following this meeting, His Excellency officially launched the 2025 National Reforestation Caravan, a large-scale initiative aimed at restoring our ecosystems and building a sustainable ecological future. He symbolically planted two iconic species, the mango tree and the baobab, the patron trees of the 42nd edition of the National Tree Day, celebrated this year under the theme: “Reforestation, Food Sovereignty, and Sustainable Territorial Development.”

The reforestation caravan is part of the National Challenge: planting one million trees in 48 hours, an initiative designed to raise community awareness of environmental issues and promote citizen mobilization for the restoration of vegetation cover. It will travel across the country’s regions to engage populations in this national effort.

The President of the Republic called for nationwide citizen mobilization to protect our natural heritage. He emphasized that every tree planted is an act of environmental patriotism and a direct contribution to the Senegal 2050 Vision: a sovereign, green, low-carbon, and resilient Senegal in the face of climate change effects.
