Press releases - 2026 January 06

The President of the Republic presided over the traditional New Year’s greetings ceremony of the Diplomatic Corps accredited in Dakar, held at the Presidential Palace.
Addressing heads of mission and representatives of international organizations, the Head of State offered a clear-eyed assessment of the turbulence shaping the international order, marked by persistent conflicts, insecurity in the Sahel, climate disruption, and the weakening of multilateralism.
In the face of these challenges, he reaffirmed Senegal’s unwavering commitment to dialogue, consultation, and respect for international law, firmly rejecting any logic of unilateralism or domination based on power relations.
The President of the Republic also reiterated Senegal’s call for impartial action by the international community in favor of peace, justice, and human dignity, emphasizing the country’s attachment to the equal dignity of cultures and civilizations as a foundation for peaceful coexistence among peoples.
Turning to the diplomatic agenda for 2026, the Head of State highlighted the major events that Senegal is preparing to host, including the high-level preparatory meeting for the United Nations Water Conference, the 10th edition of the Dakar International Forum on Peace and Security in Africa, as well as the Youth Olympic Games, the first Olympic event to be held on the African continent.
In conclusion, the President of the Republic paid tribute to the support of Senegal’s partners and reaffirmed the country’s openness to cooperation based on friendship, mutual respect, and solidarity, before extending his wishes of peace, good health, and every success to the members of the Diplomatic Corps in the performance of their duties.
