National Dialogue Day: President Bassirou Diomaye Faye Opens Consultations with Former Prime Ministers

Press releases - 2026 May 21

The President of the Republic, H.E. Bassirou Diomaye Diakhar Faye, on Thursday, May 21, 2026, at the Presidential Palace, opened the first round of consultations for National Dialogue Day. He successively received four former Prime Ministers — Cheikh Aguibou Soumaré, Abdoul Mbaye, Aminata Touré, and Amadou Ba.

The discussions focused, at length and in a calm atmosphere, on the state of the nation, its economic and security situation, within a demanding international context. The former heads of government welcomed the inclusive approach of the Head of State and, drawing on the sincerity of their experience, each shared their perspective on the challenges facing the Nation.

Receiving, on the same day, personalities with distinct political trajectories is a reminder that beyond differences lies a common good — the State, its institutions, and its balance. Having led a government of the Republic means having engaged with what is most substantial in the State. That experience does not belong to any single political family; it belongs to the country.

It is in this spirit that the Head of State chose to open this sequence with those who, at one point in their lives, bore responsibility for public affairs. The Republic honors those who have served it. It listens to what they have to say. It is strengthened by their lucidity.

For the President of the Republic, listening and consultation are not occasional gestures. They form the very grammar of his governance, established from his swearing-in on April 2, 2024, and consistently upheld ever since.
