Kédougou: President Bassirou Diomaye Faye Assesses Progress on the Promovilles Program Projects.

Press releases - 2026 February 08

Returning from Saraya, the President of the Republic, Bassirou Diomaye Faye, visited this Sunday, February 8, 2026, the sites of projects implemented under the Promovilles program in the municipality of Kédougou.

This visit enabled the Head of State to assess the progress of urban road works, which involve the construction and rehabilitation of 6.45 kilometers of paved, drained, and lit roads. These strategic corridors connect the city’s main administrative, health, educational, and commercial facilities, thereby improving traffic flow and access to essential services.

The project also includes the installation of 328 public streetlights along the road sections and in several neighborhoods, a measure aimed at enhancing the safety of people and property, particularly at night.

Beyond road infrastructure, the Promovilles program interventions in Kédougou also include the rehabilitation and equipping of the Women’s Center, the construction and rehabilitation of 24 classrooms, landscaping works, as well as the establishment of monitoring and evaluation tools to measure the socio-economic impact of the projects.

Funded by the Government of Senegal with the support of the Arab Bank for Economic Development in Africa (BADEA), the project represents a total investment exceeding CFA francs 5.7 billion.

These works have also generated significant local employment opportunities. The paving and road construction sites mobilized and trained many young people from the affected neighborhoods, as part of an approach focused on professional integration and the promotion of local skills.

Through this on-site visit, the President of the Republic reaffirms a clear political priority: making local urban infrastructure a powerful driver of territorial equity, social cohesion, and inclusive development. These investments aim to tangibly improve living conditions for the population and strengthen the attractiveness of inland cities, in full alignment with the strategic vision of Senegal 2050.
