The President of the Republic received in Kolda a delegation of religious leaders, including the Imam Ratib of Kolda, the Bishop, and several other religious authorities from the region.
Speaking on behalf of the delegation, the Imam Ratib, the Bishop, the Khalif of Saré Mussa, the Khalif of Saré Mamadi, and the President of the Regional Federation of Daaras expressed the concerns and expectations of the communities they represent.
Discussions focused on several major issues, including cattle theft, unemployment, public security, particularly border surveillance as well as the need for greater involvement of religious authorities in addressing social issues.
Through this audience, the President of the Republic reaffirmed the importance he places on the role of religious leaders in national life. Through their moral authority, deep social roots, and daily efforts in support of education, peace, and social cohesion, they remain essential actors of stability and regulation across the territories.
Members of the delegation also welcomed the Head of State’s initiative to establish the General Delegation for Religious Affairs, which they view as a sign of attentiveness, consideration, and recognition of the place of religious authorities in nation-building.
