The President of the Republic, Bassirou Diomaye Faye, received in audience on Tuesday, 24 February 2026, the Mayor of Thiès, Dr. Babacar Diop, whose city will host the upcoming National Day celebrations in the coming days.
On behalf of the Municipal Council and the entire population of Thiès, the Mayor expressed his deep gratitude for the far-reaching decision to select Thiès to host this major event in the life of the Nation. He commended the preparatory work carried out in partnership with all stakeholders and conveyed the eagerness of the people of Thiès to make this celebration a great moment of festivity, unity, and national cohesion.
The Head of State thanked the Mayor and the people of Thiès, expressing satisfaction with the progress made in the preparations.
Beyond the celebration itself, the Mayor praised the President’s commitment to development, stability, and peace, particularly in a demanding economic context, and expressed his full support.
