Freetown – Summit on the Future of Regional Integration in West Africa

International - 2026 July 19

Fifty years after its establishment, ECOWAS stands at a defining moment in its history. Against the backdrop of a region confronted with security threats, political and social divisions, and an increasingly challenging international environment, the President of the Republic, His Excellency Bassirou Diomaye Diakhar Faye, delivered a message of truth and hope.

For the Head of State, the time for diagnosis has passed; the time for action has come. He called for a renewed ECOWAS, one capable of delivering the peace, security, and prosperity envisioned by the Founding Fathers for its peoples, particularly its youth.
His conviction is unequivocal: the Declaration of Commitment to the Pact for the Future of Regional Integration must not remain a mere statement of intent. It is a commitment. It carries obligations. And Senegal, true to its history and its Pan-African vocation, is determined to be among its most steadfast champions.
