Extractive governance: Senegal confirms its leadership with a score of 89/100

Press releases - 2026 May 07

The President of the Republic received this Thursday, May 7, 2026, at the Presidential Palace, the National Committee of the Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative (EITI), on the occasion of the presentation of the results of Senegal’s third validation under the 2023 EITI Standard.

With a score of 89 out of 100 and a “Very Good” rating, the country confirms a path it has pursued since 2013 and stands among global benchmarks in extractive governance, at a time when the first oil and gas revenues from Sangomar and GTA are beginning to materialize.

Beyond the score, the Head of State set a clear direction. Transparency only has real meaning if it translates into tangible improvements in the daily lives of Senegalese citizens. This requires effective transfers to local authorities, rigorous monitoring of mining and petroleum licenses, the completion of the beneficial ownership register, the regular publication of reliable and accessible data, as well as a strengthened analytical capacity of the National Committee.

These guidelines stem from a conviction: wealth derived from the subsoil does not belong to any individual in particular. It must strengthen national cohesion, reduce inequalities, and reinforce the country’s economic sovereignty.

The score of 89/100 is not an endpoint. It is a foundation. The commitment made to the people of ensuring exemplary, accountable, and beneficial management of their natural resources—remains a long-term responsibility of the State.
