EU–AU Summit in Luanda: President Faye Advocates for Renewed Multilateralism and Peace in Africa.

International - 2025 November 24

The President of the Republic, Bassirou Diomaye Faye, took part today in Luanda in the plenary session of the European Union – African Union Summit, focused on the theme: “Peace, Security, Governance and Multilateralism”.

This high-level meeting brought together leaders from both continents to discuss strategic issues related to global stability and international governance.

In his address, the Head of State delivered a clear-eyed assessment of the crises affecting the international environment, highlighting in particular the persistence of armed conflicts, the expansion of terrorism, migratory tensions, the resurgence of unilateral postures, and the weakening of respect for international law. He called for collective and coordinated mobilisation between Africa and Europe to preserve stability, prevent sources of fragility, and avoid any risk of regional disintegration.

President Bassirou Diomaye Faye also emphasised the need to strengthen the African Peace and Security Architecture by enhancing the synergy between regional and international initiatives and by ensuring sustainable and predictable financing for peace-support operations. He stressed that the revitalisation of multilateralism must be based on solidarity, shared responsibility, and respect for international norms in order to effectively address contemporary challenges.

Finally, turning to the issue of migration, the Head of State underlined the interdependence between security, mobility, and the protection of populations. He outlined Senegal’s efforts to combat irregular emigration and to step up support for candidates for legal mobility, through an approach that respects human dignity and the aspirations of young people.
