The President of the Republic, His Excellency Bassirou Diomaye Diakhar Faye, and His Excellency Adama Barrow, President of the Republic of The Gambia, today co-chaired in Dakar the fourth session of the Senegal-Gambia Presidential Council.
Eight years after the establishment of this mechanism, the two Heads of State sought to make this session one of assessment and action, ensuring that commitments made are translated into concrete and measurable results for the benefit of their peoples. They welcomed the progress already achieved, from the Senegambia Bridge to the electricity interconnection between SENELEC and NAWEC, and outlined future priorities, including the demarcation of the common border, the Sambangalou Dam project, economic integration, energy, agriculture, and climate resilience.
The session was marked by the signing of twelve agreements and roadmaps covering defence and security, economy and trade, energy and hydrocarbons, digital transformation, youth, culture, environment, and cross-border cooperation. The two Presidents reaffirmed their shared commitment to the ideals of peace, stability, and good neighbourliness within ECOWAS, the African Union, and the United Nations.
Beyond the agreements themselves, the significance of this meeting lies in a conviction shared by both Heads of State: that of one people living in two countries, whose border is not a line of separation but a bridge of unity. Senegal and The Gambia have chosen to build a common destiny together.
