Less than one hundred days before the Youth Olympic Games, President of the Republic Bassirou Diomaye Faye this morning officially received two major facilities of the Dakar 2026 infrastructure programme: the Olympic swimming pool at the Tour de l’Œuf complex and the Iba Mar Diop Stadium.
Renovated and redesigned, the Iba Mar Diop complex will host rugby, football, athletics, and combat sports. The athletics stadium now has a capacity of 8,000 seats, while the arena can accommodate 3,000 spectators. Beyond the competitions, the site will leave a lasting legacy with the Maison du Cuir, an artistic and cultural space, as well as road infrastructure improvements that have significantly enhanced access to the stadium.
At ''Tour de l’Œuf'', the Olympic swimming pool offers 2,500 seats, bringing the complex’s total capacity to around 5,000 people. The site will host swimming, 3x3 basketball, Baseball5, skateboarding, and breaking.
The Head of State praised the quality of the facilities delivered. He also drew attention to the challenges that remain to be addressed, foremost among them the organisation of this major event, which Senegal will host next October.
