Agenda - 2026 June 18
His Excellency Mr. Bassirou Diomaye Faye, President of the Republic of Senegal, will take part in the High-Level Consultative Conference on the Next Steps Towards the Adoption of a United Nations Resolution on the Trade in Enslaved Africans.
This international conference, which will open on 18 June 2026 in Accra, Republic of Ghana, will bring together Heads of State and Government, government officials, diplomats, legal experts, academics, and representatives of regional and international organizations engaged in issues of memory, recognition, and historical justice related to the transatlantic slave trade.
Discussions will focus in particular on initiatives aimed at strengthening recognition within the United Nations system of the enduring consequences of the transatlantic trade in enslaved Africans, as well as on mechanisms that can promote historical truth, collective memory, and reparatory justice.
The participation of the President of the Republic in this conference reflects Senegal’s commitment to preserving the memory of African peoples and to advancing international dialogue on the legacy of slavery and its contemporary repercussions.
