The President of the Republic, His Excellency Bassirou Diomaye Diakhar Faye, presided this evening in Dakar over the closing ceremony of the 2025 Galien Africa Forum, dedicated to the theme: “Health Sovereignty: An Imperative for Africa.”
In his address, the Head of State commended the scientific momentum and African solidarity expressed throughout the Forum, before underscoring that health lies at the core of the freedom and dignity of peoples.
The President called for breaking the cycle of health dependency by investing in research, training, local production of vaccines and medicines, and harnessing the potential of youth, women, researchers, and the diaspora.
He recalled that Senegal is resolutely pursuing this ambition through the MADIBA project at the Institut Pasteur de Dakar and within the framework of #VisionSenegal2050, which places health and industrial sovereignty at the heart of national transformation.
The Head of State also paid tribute to the winners of the 2025 Galien Africa Prize, a symbol of an African science that is rigorous, demanding, and future-oriented, before calling for an African Pact for Health Sovereignty based on solidarity, domestic financing, and innovation.
