Climate and Resilience: Senegal Mobilized with the United Nations Fund to Address Disasters.

International - 2025 September 01

The President of the Republic, His Excellency Bassirou Diomaye Faye, granted an audience on Monday to Mr. Ibrahima Cheikh Diongue, Executive Director of the Loss and Damage Response Fund of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC).

During the meeting, the two figures discussed cooperation between Senegal and the Fund, which is mobilized to provide rapid support to countries most affected by the consequences of climate change.

The discussions addressed flood prevention, the fight against coastal erosion, as well as the challenges of desertification and natural disaster management. These are critical issues requiring urgent responses to strengthen community resilience and sustainably protect their livelihoods.

Both parties also reaffirmed their shared commitment to the need for fairer climate justice: the least polluting countries are often the hardest hit, while the highest emitters must fully assume their responsibilities.
