Bilateral Cooperation: Senegal and Turkey Aim for $1 Billion in Trade Exchanges

Following his visit to the mausoleum of Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, the founding father of the Turkish Republic, His Excellency President Bassirou Diomaye Faye was honored at the Presidential Palace in Ankara, where he met with President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan for a one-on-one meeting.

The two leaders signed a memorandum of understanding establishing a High-Level Strategic Council aimed at doubling trade volume between Senegal and Türkiye from $500 million to $1 billion in the coming years. This agreement marks a key step in bilateral cooperation, particularly in agriculture, energy, higher education, and defense.

Additionally, memorandums of understanding were signed by Senegalese ministers and their Turkish counterparts covering priority areas such as agricultural mechanization, energy and hydrocarbons, urban planning, and education, reflecting both countries’ commitment to expanding and intensifying their partnership.

The day concluded with statements from both heads of state and a dinner hosted by the Turkish presidential couple in honor of President Faye and the First Lady, symbolizing the sincere friendship and shared ambitions between Senegal and Türkiye.
