AU Summit: President Faye meets with the UN Secretary-General and the outgoing AU Commission Chairperson, Moussa Faki Mahamat

President Bassirou Diomaye Diakhar Faye began the second day of the 38th African Union Summit with a meeting with Antonio Guterres, the UN Secretary-General.

During their discussion, they exchanged views on the multifaceted crises affecting Africa and the world, the security situation in the sub-region, climate change, and the challenges related to multilateralism.

The UN, through its Secretary-General, emphasized Senegal's importance as an influential and respected voice on the international stage and expressed reliance on President Bassirou Diomaye Faye's leadership to champion global causes.

For his part, the Head of State reiterated his commitment to peace, justice, and the preservation of the major African institutions built by the continent's founding fathers.



President Faye then met with Moussa Faki Mahamat, the outgoing Chairperson of the African Union Commission, who is concluding his eight-year tenure. He warmly congratulated Mahamat for his dedication and the progress made in African integration, while also highlighting the challenges that remain for the continent's future.

Senegal thus reaffirms its role as an engaged, influential nation determined to promote international cooperation and African integration.
