On Wednesday, September 24, 2025, in New York, the President of the Republic took part in the high-level meeting of the initiative “In Defense of Democracy: Combating Extremism”, alongside the Presidents of Chile, Brazil, Uruguay, Albania, Colombia, and the Prime Minister of Spain.
In his remarks, he emphasized that democracy is a living ideal, which can only endure through a constant balance between freedom, responsibility, and respect for the republican order.
The Head of State highlighted three key priorities:
- Strengthening trust between peoples and leaders through independent and fair institutions;
- Defending multilateralism against power politics and unilateral interventions;
- Combating violent extremism not only with security measures but also through education and culture, in order to dismantle the ideologies that fuel hatred.
President Faye concluded by reaffirming the importance of dialogue, equity, and social justice as essential conditions for preserving democracies and building a more stable and united world.
