The Head of State took part, on Sunday, 14 December 2025, in the 68th Ordinary Session of the Authority of Heads of State and Government of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), held in Abuja, the capital of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
The proceedings were marked by a special debate devoted to the future of ECOWAS, alongside the review of major regional priorities, including political stability, the strengthening of security cooperation, and the deepening of economic integration within the Community.
At the conclusion of the 68th Ordinary Session of the ECOWAS Conference of Heads of State and Government, Senegal was designated to assume the Presidency of the Commission of the Organization for the 2026–2030 term, a responsibility it had not held for nearly fifty years.
This designation reflects Senegal’s diplomatic credibility and the renewed confidence of Member States, in the service of regional integration, peace, and the development of West Africa.
