Press releases - 2025 September 01

The President of the Republic, His Excellency Bassirou Diomaye Faye, presided over the opening ceremony of the 19th African Food Systems Forum in Diamniadio this Monday, in the presence of his counterpart, His Excellency Paul Kagame, President of the Republic of Rwanda, as well as numerous high-profile African and international figures.

In his address, the Head of State recalled that Africa holds 65% of the world’s arable land, a creative youth population, and considerable water resources—assets that position our continent as the key to its own food sovereignty and a major player in feeding the world.

He emphasized the need for massive investment in: • modernizing agriculture, • water management, • local processing, • developing value chains and intra-African trade, • as well as innovation and digitalization.

The President of the Republic called for making agriculture an attractive sector for African youth and the driving force behind an African renaissance based on sovereignty, innovation, and shared development.
