The Presidency answers your questions: the Biometric ID Card: a new way of being an active citizen

Focus — Tuesday, May 09, 2017

This month, for this session of “The Presidency answers your questions”, we offered you the chance to ask your questions about the Biometric ID card. Issuing procedures, cost, implications in terms of good citizenship, etc. Below are the main questions you sent in and the responses we provided.

Biometric ID card issuance

You requested further details about how the Government would issue the cards. Cards will be issued up to the 1st legislative ballot in July 2017.

Renewing an ID card and related costs

The Biometric ID card will make it possible to automatically register as a voter.

Voter registration deadlines

The question as to the deadlines for voter registration came up several times. In order to ensure that all citizens so desiring are able to vote, this period has been extended.

Use of the Biometric ID card

Lastly, you more broadly asked questions about the benefits and use of the biometric card, in particular as concerns the security of the Senegalese and inhabitants of the ECOWAS area.

We thank you for having participated and look forward to seeing you next month for the next session of “The Presidency answers your questions”.
